The attraction of educated youth in tour guiding profession is increasing every day. Since 2000, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of young adults, both men and women, taking up tour guiding as a profession. 

Every year Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) conducts training to produce skilled manpower in trekking and tourism field. Of late Nepal Mountain Academy (NMA) has also started organizing training and offering Nepal tour guide Nepal Trekking guide license.

Training includes both theoretical and practical courses. Thousands of youth apply for the training but only few get selected year. The aspirants have to go through rigorous monitoring, screening and interview process.  Besides practical classes, trainees are also required to sit in examination to receive tour guide license.

Similarly there are nearly 15000 trekking guides in Nepal. To be eligible for trekking guide training, one needs to have some years of experience working as trekking porter and have at least passed 10th grade. Unlike tour guide training, trekking guide training focuses more on nature, culture, history, first aid as well as communication.

Gosaikunda trek is named after Gosaikunda Lake situated at an altitude of 4380m in the famous Langtang trekking region. It is just a day’s walk from Dhunche, the district headquarters of Rasuwa district. Dhunche is directly connected to Kathmandu by road and is accessibly on both private and public vehicle.

What to expect during the Gosaikunda Trek?

The ultimate goal of Gosaikunda trek is to reach Gosaikunda Lake, an alpine freshwater, located at an altitude of 4380m. There are other 107 freshwater lakes in this area all of which lies within Langtang National Park. The trail passes through Tamang villages on the trek giving you spectacular views of Langtang and Ganesh Himalayan ranges.

Gosaikunda Trek altitude

Gosaikunda trek altitude ranges from 1880m up to 4380m. The highest place you will reach on Gosaikunda trek is Gosaikunda lake. This variation in altitude is reflected by the change in climate and vegetation as you will move to sub temperate to alpine zone.

Usually Gosaikunda trek cost around US$70 per day. This cost includes transportation between Kathmandu and Dhuche and a day’s food and lodging. Gosainkunda trek cost for Nepali is approximately US$50 per day. This cost is inclusive of transportation from Kathmandu to Dhunche and back, food and transportation. Any additional costs such as refreshments, alcohol, gifts, tips etc., are excluded from this cost.

Gosainkunda Trek route

Gosaikunda trek route usually begins from and ends in Dhunche , the district headquarters of Rasuwa district. Alternatively it can also end in Sundarijal. Gosaikunda trek route passes through traditional villages of Tamang community and party through Langtang National Park. The trek route is well maintained with signage and stone steps at different sections.

Dhunche to Gosaikunda

Dhunche to Gosaikunda is the shortest trekking trail to Gosaikunda Lake (4380m). It takes a total of 2 days to reach Gosaikunda and one day return to Dhunche. We will stay overnight in Chandanbari en route and one night in Gosaikunda before coming back to Dhunche. Dhunche is the district headquarters of Rasuwa District, located about 114km or 5hrs drive from Kathmandu. Both public buses and private vehicle ply between Kathmandu and Dhunche.

Gosaikunda Trek season

Gosaikunda trek season occurs two times of the year: Spring (March-April) and Autumn (Sept-Nov). During these seasons, the weather is excellent due to sunshine and balmy climate. Also flowers bloom, the entire forest turns green due to new leaves and the visibility of mountains is clear. The chances of catching the views of Himalayan ranges is easy over the period.

Gosainkunda Trek weather

Gosaikunda Trek weather is best during Spring (Feb-April) and Autumn (Sep-Nov). These periods are characterized by balmy and sunny weather and pleasant days. The scenery of Himalayan peaks is also visible along with blossoming of beautiful flowers and trees in the forests.

These treks can be adjusted for longer or fewer days depending upon your time availability. Langtang treks won’t disappoint you. Most importantly if you do Langtang trek, it will help contribute to local economy and especially support the rebuilding process in the aftermath of 2015 earthquake. Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary

Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary is one of the longest trails in the famed Annapurna region. Also called Annapurna Round trek, Annapurna Circuit trek takes you to the trans Himalayan area of Manang and Mustang valleys. Once part of the expansive Tibetan kingdom, Annapurna circuit trek itinerary passes through an area heavily influenced by Tibetan culture and tradition. Meet the Manangis people who are known for their horse riding and Thakali people of Jomsom and Kagbeni who are extremely skilled in trade and preparing delicious cuisine.

On Annapurna Circuit trek itinerary you will cross Thorang La pass at the elevation of 5416m. The second part of the journey is down Kali Gandaki river on the bank of which lies Muktinath or Chumig Gyatsa. Muktinath is one of the most sacred Buddhist and Hindu temple featuring the statue of Padmasambhava, eternal flame and 108 water spouts. A large part of the trekking trail covers Annapurna Conservation area which is a role model for eco tourism.

Thorang La is one of the highest Himalayan passes in Nepal. The pass can be approached clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. The easier and safer route is anti clockwise which begins from Thorang Phedi and drops down to Muktinath. The reverse route is not impossible but it is not recommended due to heavy ice trail near Muktinath early in the morning. If you approach the pass from Thorang Phedi, you will reach Thorang La before 12pm and as you prepare to trek down to Muktinath, the ice already starts to thaw making it easier and safer for trekkers to reach Muktinath. 

Annapurna Circuit Trek begins from Besi Sahar and passes through Bulbule, Syange, Chame, Manang, Thorang La, Muktinath, Jomsom, Marpha, Tatopani and exits out of Beni. It used to be around three long weeks of trek but nowadays because of road construction, the trail has become shorter. Most of the scenic parts of the trail can now be covered on a drive. Annapurna Circuit Trek is surprisingly becoming even more popular due to its shorter duration. Lonely Planet and other guidebooks have repeatedly put Annapurna Circuit Trek as one of the best trekking destinations in the world.
