Gosaikunda trek is named after Gosaikunda Lake situated at an altitude of 4380m in the famous Langtang trekking region. It is just a day’s walk from Dhunche, the district headquarters of Rasuwa district. Dhunche is directly connected to Kathmandu by road and is accessibly on both private and public vehicle.
What to expect during the Gosaikunda Trek?
The ultimate goal of Gosaikunda trek is to reach Gosaikunda Lake, an alpine freshwater, located at an altitude of 4380m. There are other 107 freshwater lakes in this area all of which lies within Langtang National Park. The trail passes through Tamang villages on the trek giving you spectacular views of Langtang and Ganesh Himalayan ranges.

Gosainkunda trek cost for Nepali is approximately US$50 per day. This cost is inclusive of transportation from Kathmandu to Dhunche and back, food and transportation. Any additional costs such as refreshments, alcohol, gifts, tips etc., are excluded from this cost.
Gosainkunda Trek route
Gosaikunda trek route usually begins from and ends in Dhunche , the district headquarters of Rasuwa district. Alternatively it can also end in Sundarijal. Gosaikunda trek route passes through traditional villages of Tamang community and party through Langtang National Park. The trek route is well maintained with signage and stone steps at different sections.
Dhunche to Gosaikunda
Dhunche to Gosaikunda is the shortest trekking trail to Gosaikunda Lake (4380m). It takes a total of 2 days to reach Gosaikunda and one day return to Dhunche. We will stay overnight in Chandanbari en route and one night in Gosaikunda before coming back to Dhunche. Dhunche is the district headquarters of Rasuwa District, located about 114km or 5hrs drive from Kathmandu. Both public buses and private vehicle ply between Kathmandu and Dhunche.
Gosaikunda Trek season
Gosaikunda trek season occurs two times of the year: Spring (March-April) and Autumn (Sept-Nov). During these seasons, the weather is excellent due to sunshine and balmy climate. Also flowers bloom, the entire forest turns green due to new leaves and the visibility of mountains is clear. The chances of catching the views of Himalayan ranges is easy over the period.
Gosainkunda Trek weather
Gosaikunda Trek weather is best during Spring (Feb-April) and Autumn (Sep-Nov). These periods are characterized by balmy and sunny weather and pleasant days. The scenery of Himalayan peaks is also visible along with blossoming of beautiful flowers and trees in the forests.
